Sampling of Activities

Small groups of 8-10 youth in each group, divided by age, to one leader will be participating in daily activities. The order of these will be different for each group.

Horseback Adventure: Ride from our ranch through the Red Mountain foothills on a wonderful trail that shows off incredible views and also wonderful woods. Trail rides may be broken into smaller group sizes to make them more manageable. Riding experience is not necessary as our wranglers will give a lesson before we leave. Rides will be 1-1.5 hours and each group may ride different days and times during the week.

Junk Wars: Your kiddo will dream up their best design, maybe a robot or a statue, maybe they will create an animal or a piece of art. Sort through our “junk yard” to find the perfect objects for your project, spend blocks of time working with your leader to weld or wood burn and create away. What will you create?

Zipline and Pond Play: Take flight on our tandem 10 tower zipline course. Reaching heights of up to 250’ and lines ranging from 150 to 1250’ long!  This is a high flying adventure that we are so excited to share with your kiddos! Spend the rest of the day paddling the pond and exploring the salmon creek area.

Geocaching, Team Building & Hiking: Dig back to your roots and use your decoding and map reading skills to find the hidden treasures. these shorter hikes will keep our crew active and exploring. Team building and adventuring at its best!

All your favorite parts of Sunderland Ranch Horse Camp wrapped into three days of trail packed fun! When you arrive in the morning you will be in charge of everything from pulling your horse from pasture, tacking & saddling for a 1/2 day ride with lunch on the trail. There will be 2 wranglers to a group of 6-8 students. We will ride three different trails throughout the week. Wranglers will instruct and help to make sure everyone is prepared with basics to enjoy there saddle time. This camp will NOT be based on horsemanship and will not include arena time or games. Lessons can be purchased if your student has interest in learning more. We are working toward confidence in the saddle and enjoyment of the trails and outdoors. Other outdoors activities and games may be built into each week. Expect between 2 & 3 hours in the saddle each day. Trail choices will depend on group and skill level. Lunch will be packed and eaten in different locations in the woods. When we come in off the trails students will be unsaddling their horses and putting everything away as well as grooming their horses. Students will also help in the barn with feeding, stall cleaning and other chores as needed.

Make sure your student is ready with the appropriate gear to be comfortable no matter the weather. Wear lacing shoes or boots and have a layer available for cooler days. Watch forecast and be prepared for rainy weather. We will ride as much as possible if it is raining. If we have extreme weather we will modify as much as we can, however we will not ride if it is unsafe. Other activities will happen in place of riding time.
Please pack enough lunch, snacks and water for each day.  Kids are busy and burning lots of calories daily.

Keep in mind if you have been to horse camp with Sunderland Ranch before this program will ride the same trail systems but the actually layout of the camp is more focussed on trail rides and less on other activities. No experience is needed, however athletic confidence and solid motor skills are a must. Consider how your child will respond riding and controlling a horse.
Scheduled days could be a bit different from week to week. Camp will begin at 11am and run till 5pm
