At the Sunderland Ranch, we are proud to offer Alaska horseback rides & trail rides for all levels of riders. Our ranch is home to about 20 horses, many born and raised on the ranch. Our horses are sure footed & well cared for quarter horses. They are beautiful both in stature and temperament.
Dust off your boots and spurs and don’t forget your hat! Your wrangler will give you a quick rundown of the do’s and how to’s to make your adventure a success. 1.5-hour trails are easy to book online, and no experience is necessary. At Sunderland Ranch, safety is a priority. SR reserves the right to modify, change and adjust any trial ride to ensure the safety of all riders in each group based on the groups riding ability, weather conditions or trial maintenance.
All adult riders are required to sign a release waiver and may choose to sign a helmet release. Youth 8-18 years old must have waiver signed by guardian, and under 16 we require helmets to be worn. Riders must also wear closed-toed shoes or boots. Group bookings of more than 6 riders must be made by phone. All youth riders under 14 must be accompanied by an adult. SR will not take any youth on the trail by themselves. SR does not accommodate guests under seven years of age on our trail system, however we offer lessons and other programs for our little cowboys and cowgirls.
Our ranch is 360 acres of private Alaskan wilderness and farmland. The views are just magnificent! 90-minute trails will take you around the ranch and up to some incredible views of the Chugiak Range while riding the foothills of Red Mountain. Let your horse have a cool drink as we ride across the Wolverine Lake Creek. Wranglers are knowledgeable to the area and the ranch. Feel free to ask questions. This trail offers excitement for all levels of riders.
3-hour rides are planned after assessing experience of riders. All rides will allow for incredible views and appropriate to groups skill.
As you ride the trail out to our Homestead you will enjoy sweeping views of Buffalo Mine, Hatchers Pass and the Matanuska River below. This trail is an easy, but long ride, about 3 hours round trip.
Don’t forget to pack a lights snack. We will dismount at the Homestead property to take a short break and stretch your legs. Your wrangler will share stories of clearing and working the land. You may see our cattle out grazing or other wildlife.
