ALASKA HORSEBACK RIDES
At the Sunderland Ranch, we are proud to offer Alaska horseback rides & trail rides for all levels of riders. Our ranch is home to about 20 horses, many born and raised on the ranch. Our horses are sure footed & well cared for quarter horses. They are beautiful both in stature and temperament.
1.5 Hour Trail Rides – $159.00
Imaging riding through 350 acres of private farmland that leads you to endless miles of Alaska wilderness. Magnificent views of the Chugiak Mountain Range peak out of the dense woods where moose are bedded and eagles fly. Let your horse have a cool drink as we pass through the gurgling Wolverine Lake Creek. Our wrangler are knowledgeable to the area and the ranch. This trail offers excitement for all riders.
2.5 Hour Trail Rides- $195.00
On our two hour rides take you further into the trail systems of the Lazy Mountian. Traverse along bluffs where moose pass through while you listen to the rush of the Wolverine Creek below. We will not dismount during this ride, be prepared to be in saddle for the length of the ride.
Half Day Trail Rides – $395.00
A half-day trail ride offers the perfect balance of adventure and relaxation, immersing you. In that stunning beauty of Alaska. Find your horse the perfect companion to embark on a guided ride through diverse landscapes, such as field where the cattle may be lazily feeding and forest where moose may be foraging. As you walk along well maintained foot trails, you’ll be surrounded by the breathtaking views of the snow-capped mountains, the pristine Wolverine Creek and expansive wilderness. At times you may encounter wildlife such as moose and bald eagles making the experience more exciting.
Combination Ride and Zipline Tour- $338.00
This is an incredible 5 Hour day packed with adventure. Start at the Sunderland Ranch barn where you will meet your wrangler and your horse. Enjoy our two hour trail ride with creek crossing, inclines, fields and forests. This ride is a magical way to experience the outdoors and rhythms of the horse. After a short break and one mile drive to the Alaska Zipline Adventure Park on the other side of the ranch, join in on a high flying and exciting zipline tour. This guided course will take you through 6 exciting ziplines and 3 aerial elements including moving walking bridges and floating staircases that help you gain elevation above the tree tops. Enjoy impressive views of the Talkeetna and Chugiak Mountian Ranges stretching from every direction as far as the Cook Inlet to King Mountian. This one of a kind excursion is packed with adventure filled moments that your guides will capture pictures of so you can relive the moments with your family for years to come. Video camera system available for rent onsite.

We are often asked to make a ride private for an engagement or photo shoot. We ask that you call directly to chat about the details of your perfect ride. We are happy to be part of your special occasion. We will asses these requests and put together the appropriate staffing, horses and prices. Alaska Trail Ride Adventures For The Whole Family!
Dust off your boots and spurs and don’t forget your hat! Your wrangler will give you a quick rundown of the do’s and how to’s to make your adventure a success. 1.5-hour trails are easy to book online, and no experience is necessary. At Sunderland Ranch, safety is a priority. SR reserves the right to adjust trials to ensure the safety of all riders in each group based on riding ability, weather conditions or trial maintenance.
FAQ’s
What should I wear for a trail ride? Riders need to wear closed-toed shoes or boots and comfortable clothes. It is often cooler on the Mountian so be prepared with an extra layer.
Do I need to wear a helmet? Helmets are recommended for all riders, however they are mandatory for all youth under 18. Adults may sign a release and ride with out one. Approved equestrian helmets are provided by SR.
Do I need previous riding experience? Most trail rides cater to all experience levels, from beginners to advanced. Guides will provide instructions and assistance to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.
How long is a typical trial ride? Trail rides can very in length, typically from 1.5 hours to 4 hours. Longer excursions and overnight trips are also available.
Is trail riding safe? Trail riding is generally safe when done with a reputable guide and equipment. Our horses are well-trained and sure footed. Our guides prioritize safety and provide instructions before the ride.
Can I bring my own horse? We do not allow you to bring your own horse on our trials.
What if it rains? Trail rides will typically go on even if it rains. However in the circumstance that the weather is too extreme to ride, SR will make the call to reschedule or cancel for safety reasons.
Can Children participate in trail riding? Children 8 and older can participate in our trail rides. A liability waiver MUST be signed by a guardian before participating in the ride.
Will we see wildlife while riding and will I be safe? While it is possible that you may see wildlife such as moose or eagles, we cannot guarantee this. We are riding in moose and bear country but often they are aware of us before we are aware of them and they generally will move on unseen. Your guides will have bear spray in saddle bags in case you have a close encounter. While a close encounter is incredibly rare, it is not impossible. Overnight rides will pose a larger chance of encountering wild life and your guides will be packing on these rides.
Do I need to sign a waiver? All adult riders are required to sign a release waiver and may choose to sign a helmet release as well. Youth 8-18 years old must have waiver signed by guardian, and under 18 we require helmets to be worn. All youth riders under 14 must be accompanied by an adult. SR will not take any youth on the trail by themselves. SR does not accommodate guests under seven years of age on our trail system.
Is there a restaurant onsite? AZAP does have a snack bar onsite offering pre-packaged snacks and drinks as well as and hot and cold drinks made to order. Occasionally fresh baked goods are available.
